The Farm

North of town is your farm. Pick an open spot and start tilling.

Pocket Country runs on the real calendar. When it's October for you, it's fall on your farm. Here's one plot through a whole year.

A garden of carrots and turnips edged with tulips, with flowering berry bushes on the corners, beside two cherry trees in bloom

Spring, with the cherry trees in bloom.

For the first two weeks of April, the cherry trees bloom and petals blow across the farm. Spring is the season for root crops. And! On rainy days, the rain does your watering for you.

The same garden in summer with tomatoes, strawberries and eggplants inside a ring of sunflowers, the trees deep green

Summer. The tomatoes are coming in.

Pick a ripe tomato plant and it grows another batch three days later. The darker soil has been watered. Crops only grow on days they get water, and if you miss a day, they just wait for you.

The same garden in fall with cabbages and eggplants inside a ring of sunflowers, the grass orange-brown and the trees red and gold, the town behind

Fall. Even the grass changes color.

As the nights get colder, the grass shifts a little every couple of weeks. I really took inspiration from the grass colors in the original Animal Crossing game on GameCube. The purple grass around Thanksgiving in that game specifically is like a core childhood memory, so I've tried my best to replicate that feeling here.

The same garden in winter under snow, with withered stalks where the eggplants and sunflowers were

And winter, when the field gets a rest.

Snow covers the ground from December 10 until late February. Crops that can't take the cold wither on the first day of winter. Those dry stalks used to be eggplants and sunflowers.

Next week, a look inside your home.

That's all for now. Thanks for letting me borrow your time!
